Sailing for schools

Arenys de Mar Sailing Club offers a programme of courses which are specially designed for schools.
The courses are aimed at both public and private schools and comprise a variety of activities; students can not only practise the sport itself but also learn about other subjects related to the school curriculum, whether at primary, secondary or upper secondary level as well as vocational training courses, etc.
A growing nuber of schools are taking an interest in water sports when organising school outings, activity weeks or end-of-term trips in which students can combine sporting and cultural activities. We offer a series of courses designed to suit different numbers of students and different age groups.
The courses on offer are as follows:

HALF DAY COURSE
Mornings from 10 am to 2 pm.
Choose between these 2 options:
- A fun outing in the form of an introduction to sailing and kayaking.
- A chance to combine fun and learning – an introduction to sailing followed by an educational visit to a fishing boat to learn about the fishing industry.

DAY COURSE
From 10 am to 1pm and from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
- A fun day comprising an introduction to sailing, kayaking and windsurfing.
- A chance to combine fun and learning – an introduction to sailing followed by an educational visit to a fishing boat and a lobster farm to learn about the fishing industry.

ACTIVITY WEEKS
- 3 days (2 nights)
From Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday.
Accommodation and all meals provided.
Sports: Sailing, Kayaking, Climbing Wall, Archery and Mountain Biking
- 4 days (3 nights)
From Monday to Friday.
Accommodation and all meals provided.
Different sports activities.

SECONDARY SCHOOL QUALIFICATIONS
Introducing sailing as part of the physical education curriculum at secondary and upper secondary level; the social, educational and health benefits of sailing are highly effective tools in furthering students’ academic and personal development.
Aims:
1. Bring the sea to schools.
2. Use sailing as an educational tool.
3. Increase knowledge of the maritime environment and culture.
4. Enable students to master the sea and to work as part of a team.

THEMATIC QUALITFICATIONS
This course is aimed at both public and private schools in the town of Arenys de Mar and its surrounding area; students can not only practise the sport itself but also learn about other subjects related to the school curriculum.
We offer three different subjects relating to the town of Arenys de Mar, sailing and the sea.
Subjects:
1. The Mediterranean
2. Around the world
3. Arenys, a sea-going town
Course length: 3 days or 1 week

SPORT AND CULTURE WEEKS
- 3 days (2 nights)
Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday.
Accommodation and all meals provided
- 4 days (3 nights)
Monday to Friday.
Accommodation and all meals provided.

Sailing: Navigation. Maps, compass, GPS
Rights of way
Meteorology: Theory and practice
Natural Environment: Life at sea.
The world of fish: form and function.
Crustaceans (visit to Port d’Arenys sea-food nurseries)
Social and Economic environment: Arenys de Mar: a dynamic town.
Man and the sea: the world of fishing.
The fish market.
Culture: Salvador Espriu and the town of Arenys de Mar.
Visit to the church and its baroque altarpiece.
